Well, the other shoe has dropped, the California Supremes have ruled the ban on “Gay Marriage” is unconstitutional thus removing obstacles for the gay marriage process in that state. As California goes, so goes the nation on this one.
No doubt there will be outrage among my fellow Catholics and other Christians over this. But all this pique is symptomatic of the moral relativism which afflicts the Church.
Where is the outrage over divorce, birth control, mixed marriage and civil marriage among Catholics? Really! We cannot be selective over which sins to condemn and which ones to tolerate. Yet, few if any Catholics raise an eyebrow over these things, but howl mightily at the idea of “gay marriage”. Considering that gays make such a small percentage of the population at large, the real threat to the family has been and always will be the following 3 things: civil marriage, divorce and remarriage, and contraception.
Let us call things what they are - sins - and realize that gay marriage is the result of the slippery slope the Catholic faithful have been riding for the past 40 years in their desire to be tolerant, inclusive and like their protestant and atheist neighbors.
So your daughter is at college and is living with her boyfriend. She is welcome in your house but you would never think to call her what she is - a fornicator. But then so are those who have a non-sacramental civil marriage, they too are fornicators. A certificate and license from the civil authority does not make this sexual relationship other than concubinage. But atleast they are Adam and Eve not Adam and Steve, right? This hypocrisy is killing the faith of many Catholics.
Your son has divorced and remarried, he is an adulterer and she (his ‘wife’) is an adulteress. You use oral contraception- this is a form of sodomy believe it or not. But these are okay because the relationships are between a male and a female so this makes them legitimate expressions of sexuality? Sorry, they are grave sins all condemned by the Church. The only difference is the degree of evil, but I am sure they all obtain hell-worthy punishments. Same deal with abortion - it is the moral relativism of self-professed “good Catholics” which have failed to curb this evil no matter how many pro-life marches they attend or support. By failing to pull out the root, the evil continues to flourish and spread.
Oh Catholics, wise up and get some virile faith instead of the cuddly group hug nonsense that passes for religion these days! Clean up your own houses, bring yourselves your sons and daughters into line with the teachings of the Church on marriage and the family.
Gay marriage is only the symptom and outcome of a greater underlying disease.
