Lent is not a happy time of fasting from bubblegum and sodapop, it is one in which we examine our consciences and expose our selves to those things which we hide from, in this case how our silence in the Church has allowed for our shepherds to lead us astray. Giving up things like chocolate and bubblegum disguise the seriousness of this annual spiritual exercise with frivolity and an inappropriate light heartedness.
“Today, nations once rich in faith and vocations are losing their own identity, under the harmful and destructive influence of a certain modern culture…” Pope Benedict XVI
The Holy Father in October warned, using the prophetic voice of the Petrine See, that the influence of modern culture – actually ‘a certain modern culture’ – was eroding the identity of Christendom and the nations which compose it. This modern culture which he did not specify has been instrumental for the chaos which currently envelops the Church in the Smoke of Satan first alluded to by Pope Paul VI of blessed memory. This smoke is no more evident than in the blinding darkness that has eroded the eyes of the Episcopal Sees of Boston and Los Angeles where the current Overseers of these Churches have pandered to the motives of secularism and have expressed confused ideas about holocausts and the magisterium of the Church.
A major error was uttered by the heir of the Apostles in Boston in the wake of the Williamson scandal wherein he stated that the Holocaust of the Jews in WWII was the greatest crime ever experienced by humanity. Missing was the crime committed by mankind upon the rightful King and Lord of all, that crime which we commemorate in every Mass, the Crucifixion of our Lord Jesus Christ. The Cardinal of Boston was supported in his claim by the one of Los Angeles who in partnership with non-Catholic religious leaders proclaimed Bishop Williamson as being outside the Catholic Church; “Holocaust deniers like Williamson will find no sympathetic ear or place of refuge in the Catholic Church, of which he is not — and may never become — a member….”
Both of these Bishops are confused, the articles of the faith do not require Holocaust belief as necessary for acceptance in the Catholic Church – the Holocaust despite its evident horror and crime against the Jews and against all humanity is not nor will it ever be an article of the Faith.
Nevertheless in these same Archdiocese the evident denial of a holocaust which is magisterially recognized and one which dwarfs the genocide of WWII in magnitude continues – the HOLOCAUST OF THE UNBORN. Its victims are too young to speak for themselves and the evident silence, the lack of witness from the Sees of Boston and Los Angeles suggest these prelates are currying favor with the politicians and entertainers who dominate the political climate of those two regions. They have become the servitors of the famous, the rich and the powerful. Appalling is the recent proposed joining of Boston’s Caritas Christi and a healthcare corporation which provides abortions and other anti-pregnancy services. The Cardinal has given mixed messages regarding this joint venture and his equivocation about whether the venture will result in direct material cooperation with an intrinsically evil process – that of providing abortions. The Cardinal fails to realize that money is fungible and there is no possibility of establishing a fixed boundary between the Catholic hospital system and that of the secular health care organization. Money profited from the in utero annihilation of unborn children will not somehow magically demarcate itself from clean money profited from other health care, to think this is possible is utterly foolish and the Cardinal of Boston must know this. Regardless of how the books are cooked, the direct cooperation with material evil is present, evident, and undeniable and the Cardinal will need to take a moral and disciplinary stand on this soon or come to Christ having failed to guard his flock prudently.
Tacit support for the childkilling holocaust through disguised and specious reasoning resembles the pharisaic tendency condemned in the Gospel by Our Lord Jesus Christ who called these agents of religious orthodoxy “whited sepulcres”. These whited sepulcres are interested in maintaining money, power and influence at the cost of the souls in their charge.
These sepultral voices in our Church were recently addressed by the Pope himself in his address to the critics of his lifting of the excommunications of the 4 SSPX Bishops. The disingenuous posturing of various Bishops including the two referred two in this article exposes a rift in the Catholic Church in the highest places, the fissure through which the Smoke of Satan has entered and which is choking the life out of vocations. It is no wonder that these two Episcopal Sees in the United States have also been the epicenters of the homosexual priest scandals which have rocked the Universal Church since 2002 if not earlier. These Sees, Boston and Los Angeles are hotbeds of dissent and dare I say, heresy. Their influence is wide and not limited to their respective diocese but enshroud others in the same forms of doctrinal dissent, softness of morality and liturgical travesties we witness in Boston and Los Angeles.
At times one gets the impression that our society needs to have at least one group to which no tolerance may be shown; which one can easily attack and hate. And should someone dare to approach them – in this case the Pope – he too loses any right to tolerance; he too can be treated hatefully, without misgiving or restraint.”
There is simply no excuse for the Cardinals of the Church to engage in this type of public scandal, to foment disunity in the Church and to misrepresent the intentions of the Pope so as to foster resentment and create offense within the Jewish community. Yes, I truly accuse these prelates of intentionally misdirecting attention towards Bishop Williamson and his kooky and off the wall statements about the Holocaust to engender offense among our brothers the Jews in order to seize opportunities for themselves; opportunities for power, prestige, influence and publicity, fame and not least, money.
The Pope has said in his letter explaining the remittance of the excommunications: “I was saddened by the fact that even Catholics who, after all, might have had a better knowledge of the situation, thought they had to attack me with open hostility.”
Cardinal O’Malley and Cardinal Mahony are two of the primary and most visible culprits and should be admonished for their one-sided and selective stances on such socially delicate matters – using the situation to sow hurt and discord while at the same time ignoring the holocaust of the unborn, failing to exercise paternal discipline among their errant priests and failing to address the sexual abuses committed within their respective diocese, allowing the deterioration of the liturgy, indeed fostering liturgical aberration and profanation of the central sacrament of the Catholic Church through the improper exercise of the Roman Rite.
It is out of my competence a a layman to speak to issues such as these however, in these hard and dangerous times, the shepherds have been struck and the flock has been scattered - Matthew 26:31. Are there no wise prelates whose voices are heard above the din and clash of the City of God with the City of Man?
What are the laity to do when faced with evident corruption, dissent and disobedience among our own Bishops? Whare is the guidance? Where is the consolation? The Church is led on its way to Crucifixion, the Body of Christ by its chief priests – and as the Psalmist says “And they gave me gall for my food, and in my thirst they gave me vinegar to drink.” Psalm 69:21.
The answer is Magisterially formulated:
“Christ … fulfills His prophetic office … not only by the hierarchy who teach in His name and with His authority, but also by the laity ….” (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, n. 35)
“They [the laity] are, by [reason of] knowledge, competence or outstanding ability which they may enjoy, permitted and sometimes even obliged to express their opinion on those things which concern the good of the Church.“ (Vatican II, Dogmatic Constitution on the Church, n. 37)
We face in America times not too unlike the Arian heresy in which the majority of the Bishops of the Church espoused an heretical doctrine necessitating the Nicene Council. Too many of our influential prelates have espoused the heresy of modernism and have in effect created a false doctrine within the Church – one which will ultimately lead to separation, one which will require each of us to stand with the sheep or stand with the goats – there will be no in between.
